Law Enforcement Continuing Education hosted by CR Equine & Kennel: Blending Forensic Science, Emotional Wellness, and Animal-Assisted Learning
Location: CR Equine & Kennel, 3611 Austin Road, Monroe, NC 28112
Hosted by CR Equine & Kennel, sponsored by Laura Pettler & Associates Death Investigations
Dr. Laura hosts continuing education courses for law enforcement and first responders on her North Carolina horse farm that goes far beyond traditional training.
At CR Equine & Kennel, Dr. Laura has created a unique experiential model that integrates forensic instruction with animal-assisted, farm-based wellness agritourism experiences — designed specifically to address the emotional toll of high-stress careers in public safety.
Dr. Laura’s esteemed colleagues, renowned experts in their fields from multiple disciplines, engage participants in hands-on investigative courses and simulations—bloodstain pattern analysis, crime scene investigation, serial predators, forensic victimology, forensic photography, shooting reconstruction, and her Murder Room Method training itself —while working side-by-side with horses, dogs, and other animals on the farm. This dual-track approach not only sharpens critical investigative skills, but also supports emotional regulation, stress relief, and reconnection with empathy through structured animal interaction.
By combining science-backed investigative instruction with the proven mental health benefits of human-animal bonding, her program provides a trauma-informed, restorative learning environment that fosters resilience, self-awareness, and psychological wellness — because healing and professional growth can happen in the same place.
***Our approach to continuing education is unique. Our trainings are held on our horse farm and the animals are accessible for attendees to pet. Cats and dogs are present in and around our classroom. Puppies and kittens too! Many are orphaned and need lots of love. Our attendees love holding our baby animals during training. Our training is suitable for participants who love animals and who do not have allergies or sensitivities to being outdoors or around all the normal things you would expect to find on a farm, such as, but not limited to dirt, grass, trees, birds, horse manure, and animal dander. Our trainings are not well suited for people who do not like animals. Our courses are held in on on-the-farm classroom. Please wear appropriate clothing to be on the farm…leave the dress clothes and high heels at home! :)
***We do not serve or sell food or drinks. Participants are required to bring their own food and drinks with them to the training. No food or beverage is available at the training. The closest store is only open in the morning and only sells baked goods. Nearest grocery store 10 minutes away. Nearest fast food 15 minutes away.

Plan Your Visit to Monroe, NC:
Hotels - We recommend the Holiday in Express or the Hampton Inn in Monroe, North Carolina both about 15 minutes from the farm. There are several very nice hotels in Matthews, NC as well, about 30-40 minutes towards Charlotte if you’re looking for something where you can go out in Charlotte at night.
Restaurants - We love El Vallarta, Ay Carumba, Buffalo Wild Wings, Red Bowl, and Logan’s Steakhouse
